I NEED HELP!

Do I Need it? Or Want t?
In our advertising saturated society there is a blur between needs and wants. In fact, the most effective advertising campaigns connect a product with fundamental human needs. Instead of being sold deodorant or toothpaste, we are being sold popularity or sexual appeal.

A “need” is something we must have to live. A “want” is something you would like to have, but is not necessary to live. “Wants” add to the quality of our lives, whereas a need is a fixed expense. Because we all have a fixed amount of money to manage, it is important to distinguish between what we need and what we want. The reason credit card debt has become such a problem is because we want too many things NOW. Instead, put aside money for needs, for the fixed expenses you have no choice about. Then make choices about wants based on how much you can afford. What is the most important priority for you? Clothes, eating out, entertainment, gifts, SAVINGS?? Think about it!

You Can Control the Flow!

“We live in a consumer culture, saturated with mass media images. Much of our physical and informational space is for sale – billboards, TV, magazines, newspapers, even the area behind home plate – all of these spaces pitch products promising to improve our lives. We are all, sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously, affected by this advertising, often in very subtle ways.”
